Musings, Technology and The Gospel
So, I have tried out pretty much all of the different types of formats the church recommends on their PDA site, on a palm and pocketPC. Out of them all, in my opinion MarkMyScriptures is by far the best.
It allows you to highlight and underline in a bazillion different colors, take notes, and even download all of the footnotes and other scripture helps.
There is a free version that will allow you to read the scriptures, but there is this an annoying bar on the bottom that says please register. You only can have 5 notes and marks per document as well. I recommend you just buy a license. It is a one time $17.50, but then they will send you a registration number you can enter to get rid of the bar and be able to mark as much as you want.
After you have installed it, you can download all of the files for scriptures (and a lot of other things) here.
But there is one more component of the program called MarkMyScripturesWeb. I purchased a license when I had my PocketPC, and LOVED it. This program basically allows you to put ANYTHING you can find on LDS.org onto your PDA (including Topical Guides, Bible Dictionary, Footnotes, Ensigns, Lessons, etc… ), as well as create your own individual books to read on the nice PDA reader. This will cost you an additional $12.50… well worth it in my opinion

Other Uses
When I was in graduate school I used this program to download eBooks from Gutenberg and put them on my PDA. The reader has a nice auto-scroll feature that you can speed up. I used it to read entire books VERY fast. You would be amazed at how fast you can read when you put that speed up. It captivates your attention because otherwise you get left behind.
I also used it to convert my lessons for seminary over into PDA format. I would spend about an hour at the beginning of the week putting my lessons on there and then I could work on them throughout the week where ever I was. It was great!
Advice
Oh, as a sidnote, if you are going to go this route, make sure you get a big SD card… at least 1GB. That way you can be sure to hold everything.
Blackberry
Now a days I use a blackberry and have tried many different things, but so far the only thing that kind of works is the online version… but I have cingular and the network connection isn’t always fast enough to keep up in a class. I sure do miss my pocketPC some days…
What about you? What have you used, and what do you like?

I have used YanceyWare (http://www.yanceyware.com/) for years from my old iPAQ days to my PocketPC Phone. I am not a big marker in my electronic scriptures so that was never a feature that was super important to me – you can put annotations in there, but I haven’t done much of that.
It has a good amount of content and people have built tools to help them convert Church content into the ybk format that the reader uses. It is donation-ware. I wish it had better soft key support (although looking at the site it appears that there is a beta out that should improve on that – I am going to try that!).
I am considering buying the new t-mobile/google G1 which uses the android format. Will I be able to access any of the LDS scriptures or material with that phone?
You know, I'm not totally sure about the new Google G1. The nice thing about that platform however, is that it is open. I think it takes any type of java application.
But I also believe it has 3G connectivity so you can connect easily to http://scriptures.lds.org.
Another sidenote… the iPhone app out, Scriptures, is really coming along nicely. It works offline too and it is really sweet. I would really like to see some of the functionality of MarkMyScriptures though for highlighting. That is the last thing it is missing, but it has all the extra stuff and footnotes now.

I am going to buy an Andoid phone soon as well and it would be nice to use MMS. I used it some time ago and loved it.
Is there a solution for PC/Netbook? Can PocketPC apps be run on XP? What about Ubuntu?
