Just another VansWebsites.com site

A couple of years ago when President Hinckley challenged us to read the Book of Mormon before the end of the year (2005) I found ReadtheScriptures.com online. It is a fantastic tool that I imagine most of the readers of this blog have heard of before, but just in case, this is how it works.
You log in and create a scripture reading schedule and it is e-mailed to you every day. It won’t send you your next day till you complete the one for today and click a complete button. It sends reminders after a couple of days of inactivity. You can set up the schedule in a ton of different ways and they now have not only all of the standard works, but they have schedules for Sunday School, and get this… they just added SEMINARY. You can set up a seminary schedule that will email a student every day what he needs to read… and start it on what ever week you are on.
There are also other great features like an online journal, highlighting, notes, and my favorite, teams. With teams, you can set it up so you can see how everyone else on your team is doing on their reading as well. You could have a seminary class team. (Can you tell I taught seminary for two years… I would have so used this!!).
I personally use it to keep me on track when I set goals. I usually don’t read from the e-mails they send because I like to use (highlight/mark) my own scriptures, but occassionally I will be in a dark room with my son rocking him to sleep reading on my blackberry (they have a mobile interface that works pretty well too).
What about you… how have you/could you use this?

Oh… did I mention that all of this is FREE?!! Does life get any better?
And if you would rather listen to the scriptures this year, go to ScriptureCast.net and create a custom podcast of the scriptures.
Not only is ScriptureCast.net FREE, but it doesn’t even require any user registration!
